Norika stands for over 35 years of expertise in potato breeding, seed potato production and applied research. Our roots lie in the northern German “Gesundlage” – a region that offers perfect conditions for seed potato quality.
This locational advantage, combined with consistent research, results in varieties that are convincing in cultivation worldwide.
Then and now
Born from tradition. Developed with innovation.
Norika’s roots lie in the long tradition of potato breeding in northern Germany. Over a hundred years ago, state research stations and agricultural institutions here were already working on making potato varieties more robust, high-yielding and resistant.
Over the course of the 20th century, these structures developed into a dense network of breeding, experimentation and practical variety testing – supported by regional farms, state institutes and specialized breeders.
After reunification, many of the growing skills from East and West Germany were pooled together. This upheaval gave rise to Norika in 1991: an independent company that combines traditional breeding methods with modern research.
Today, Norika is continuing this history – with varieties based on decades of knowledge, regional experience and the combination of practice and science.
